A High Street auction house that launched this year has officially opened the doors to its adjoining bistro and restaurant.

RWB Auctions opened its auction house in Royal Wootton Bassett's former Co-op on Monday, January 15, and owner Jon White hinted at the time that a further gallery and bistro were still to come.

But town residents have been waiting three months for the announcement of when Quercus Bistro would be opening.

Quercus Bistro officially opened its doors to Royal Wootton Bassett's High Street on Thursday morning, April 18, and locals flocked to be the first to try it out.

The parisien-inspired bistro is open Wednesday to Sunday for brunch, teas and coffees in the mornings and then transforms into a lively wine bar and restaurant in the evenings, offering a range of delicious food and drinks.

But customers are encouraged to book ahead, as staff have already had a sense of how popular the place will be.

“We're not just an auction house," said hospitality operations manager Steve Newton.

“It is a place where people can spend some quality time here, they could even spend a whole day here."

Steve, who will be overseeing Quercus, is no stranger to the hospitality business, having picked up his own AA Rosettes, which are awarded for culinary excellence amongst the finest restaurants in the UK.

"I have been watching the building take shape for a while and was looking for somewhere local to come back into the industry," he said.

"After nearly 25 years in the hospitality industry, I am extremely pleased to be engaged with this project which allows me to bring my experience to a new and exciting venture.

"In Royal Wootton Bassett we are at the centre of a network of local farms, offering ethically reared meat and sustainable produce.

"Wiltshire is a long way from Paris, but at Quercus we’re inspired by the cooking and ethos of French bistros, offering exquisitely prepared favourites like steak frites, wild mushroom ragu and chicken supreme in a relaxed setting.

"Our dishes are designed to pair with bottles from our ever-changing wine list, proudly displayed on our bespoke wine wall."

Speaking to the Adver, RWB Auctions owner Mr White added: “It has been such a journey to get to a point where we are now open to the public. This is a very exciting time for the auction house and for the town.

“I love the town, Wootton Bassett has a great amount of community support, always has done.

"The support from locals and other businesses has been fantastic."
