Swindon Cricket Club have launched a new specific women’s section in the club to help women in the area get into the sport.
One of Wiltshire’s largest cricket clubs have brought in their first women-specific team, a soft-ball side that is inclusive of players with all ranges of experience and abilities, with the team looking to focus on the enjoyment of the game and developing new skills for the players.
The first indoor training session has been hosted, with many more planned over the coming months, and the intention is to partake in women’s softball festivals over the summer.
The initiative is free for all to get involved with at Cricklade Manor Prep School before moving to Swindon Cricket Club once the weather improves over the summer months.
The programme has received support from England Women’s Cricket World Cup winner Danni Wyatt, who recorded a message on the club website encouraging people to get involved with the initiative.
She said: “I just want to say, what a great opportunity this is at Cricklade Manor Prep School.
“It is a great opportunity to play some cricket, meet some new friends, have some fun along the way, and smack that ball out of the park.”
