An alleged ‘drug den’ above an old Swindon Co-op Funeralcare has been closed down.

The property at 20 High Street in Old Town was served a closure order on May 7.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “The closure order was applied for as a result of ongoing anti-social behaviour and suspected drug activity at the address.”

The move was welcomed by residents. One said on Facebook: “Much needed and Old Town will be better off for a while at least.”

Before the closure order was given, police were seen at the address on May 3, with at least three vehicles.

Police have confirmed that at this time a man was arrested for threatening behaviour.

Stuart Randall, 43, of High Street, Old Town was charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

Randall is named, along with Debra Wilson and Neil Cowley, as the only people exempt from the closure order.

The order granted at Swindon Magistrates' Court states that anyone else is ‘prohibited from remaining, returning and/or entering’ 20 High Street for three months, liable to imprisonment or a fine.

Randall is due in Swindon Magistrates' Court on May 21.
