A Swindon man who was hunted by police has pleaded guilty to 11 thefts in just nine days.

On April 30, Wiltshire Police put out an appeal for help locating wanted man David Munday, of Farndale Close in Penhill.

Just two days later, Munday appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrate’s Court.

The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to a whopping 11 shoplifting offences, as well as two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

The court heard how between April 22 and May 1, 2024, Munday stole the following items:

  • A four-pack of Budweiser and £68 worth of laundry products from The Co-op on Diamond Crescent
  • £50 worth of Ferrero Roche from The Co-op on Beechcroft Road
  • Cans of Stella, seven packs of salmon and £40 worth of laundry products from The Co-op on Windbrook Meadow
  • £50 worth of meat and beer from The Co-op on Highdown Way
  • £68.50 worth of laundry products from Tesco Express on Cheney Manor Road

The unusual shopping list of stolen goods landed Munday in Swindon Magistrate's dock, where he stood nonchalantly with his hands down his trousers.

But magistrates were unable to sentence the defendant on May 2, as it was announced that Munday had been recalled to prison by the probation service with immediate effect.

The shoplifter's case has now been adjourned to May 23.
