Photos taken by a drone have shown what one of the town's most iconic buildings looks like now.

For years, many in Swindon called Wakefield House their place of work, as it formerly housed Burmah Castrol among other businesses.

It was built in 1972 as the showpiece headquarters for Burmah Castrol and is set in nearly 11 acres of landscaped grounds off Pipers Way and close to the M4.

Now part of Wakefield House, the former energy centre has been turned into a residential home, but the main building is available for lease.

Member of the public Jason Spickett used his drone to capture some images of the building as it stands currently.

In 2021, Nationwide confirmed that its offices at Wakefield House in Old Town and two buildings at Windmill Hill Business Park in West Swindon would not reopen after the pandemic and the leases would not be renewed.

It cited the changing behaviour of its workforce who were turning towards working from home as the reason behind the decision.

Burmah Castrol, stayed in Swindon at Wakefield House and then Lydiard Fields before leaving the town in 2019 to relocate staff to BP's Berkshire HQ.
