A motorcyclist raced down the M4 at more than double the speed limit in the early hours.

Roads Policing Unit officers managed to catch up to a rider going along the motorway in Wiltshire at 143mph on Thursday morning.

They seized the bike, reported the driver, and shared the incident on social media at around 1.10am on May 9.

A Wiltshire Specialist Operations spokesperson said: “RPU with this bike rider stretching their legs to a ridiculous 143mph sprint on the M4 tonight.

“Matters only made worst that their licence doesn’t cover them for this much power.

“Bike seized, driver reported.”

Speeding is one of the five most common causes of fatal crashes on the roads, along with careless driving, not wearing a seatbelt, using a handheld mobile phone, and drink or drug driving.

Wiltshire Police’s Fatal Five campaign raises awareness of the issue and involves roads policing units focusing on catching drivers committing those offences in order to prevent further deadly road traffic accidents.
