It's almost six decades since the Rolling Stones played a memorable gig in Swindon.
Mick Jagger and co made their live debut in Wiltshire at Salisbury's Gaumont Theatre and soon returned to the county in the new year.
The venue for this was Swindon in the upstairs ballroom at McIlroys on Regent Street on Thursday, January 17, 1964.
They were supported by local act the Hummelflugs and admission for the show was seven shillings and sixpence, which works out to under a pound in today's money.
“Saw the Rolling Stones, my first time seeing a group, they were fabulous, but I lost my shoes. My mum wasn't pleased,” remembered Joan Pawlaczek.
It was the first of five separate shows the Stones played in Wiltshire that year, marking the county as a hotspot for the then upcoming band, with the band also playing McIlroys to a quieter crowd on Sunday, October 27, 1963.
"I went to all three Rolling Stones gigs in Swindon and at the first show, the place was nearly empty," said Michael Nolan.
"By the last show it was heaving and their van had apparently broken down, leading to a local taxi driver taking them to his house in Penhill to meet his mother and have a cup of tea!"
Many notable music acts played at McIlroys over the years, including The Beatles before they hit the big time.
