SWINDON Town signed off their pre-season campaign with their fourth consecutive defeat as they fell to a 2-1 loss away to Yeovil Town.
With just a week until Swindon start their League One campaign against Coventry City at the County Ground, goals from Tom Eaves and Otis Khan, either side of a strike from Jonathan Obika, were enough to secure the win for the League Two outfit.
Town made two changes to the side that started the mid-week defeat to Swansea City last Wednesday.
Raphael Branco, who suffered a recurrence of his groin injury, and Anton Rodgers both missed the trip to Somerset.
They were replaced by Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill and Ellis Iandolo, as Swindon stuck with three at the back, with Bradley Barry taking the role of Branco at the right of the trio and James Brophy switched to the right.
John Goddard created the first chance of the half five minutes in when he made space for himself in the middle of the park but his finish from the edge of the box was below par and well off target.
Yeovil were set up to play directly with Eaves playing the role of target man and it was the big centre-forward who broke the deadlock in the 16th minute.
Lawrence Vigouroux had done well initially to push a free-kick from Matthew Dawson wide of his goal with a diving save low to his left.
However, the resulting corner was taken short and Ryan Hedges played the ball into the far post where Eaves climbed highest to head past a hapless Vigouroux.
The Glovers’ lead lasted less than two minutes however, as Town responded immediately through Jonathan Obika.
Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill showed his pace to drive into the box down the left before cutting the ball back from the byline to find Obika, who slotted into an empty net against his former club.
Both sides lost their rhythm and intensity as the half wore on, however, Town needed a good save from Vigouroux to ensure they went in level at the break.
Eaves switched the play from the left in the 42nd minute to find Hedges in acres of space on the edge of the box.
However, Vigouroux rushed from his line quickly and was able to deny the Yeovil winger with his feet.
Swindon started the second half the brighter of the two teams and Ormonde-Ottewill found Brophy well with a ball to the back post in the 52nd minute, but the full—back’s side-footed effort was blocked on the line.
Yaser Kasim then tried his luck with a free-kick 25 yards out in the 55th minute, but his shot just cleared the crossbar of Artur Krysiak's goal.
However, Yeovil grew into the half and moments after Town had made five changes, they found themselves in front.
Khan was found in too much space in the box by Eaves in the 72nd minute and kept his composure to finish past Will Henry, who had only been on the pitch a matter of seconds.
Skipper Nathan Tompson saw his game cut short eight minutes from the end as he went off after receiving treatment on his left ankle.
Town controlled possession for the remainder of the game but were unable to create a clear-cut chance as they fell to their fourth defeat of pre-season.
Swindon Town XI: Vigouroux (Henry 72’), Barry, Ormonde-Ottewill (Young 72’), Thompson (Spalding 84’), Sendles-White, Brophy, Kasim, Goddard (Evans 72’), Smith, Iandolo (Stewart 72’), Obika (Hylton 72’)
