ONCE the heart of a rural community, Stratton is now at the heart of one of the most thriving parts of Swindon. The parish, which includes Stratton St Margaret, Upper Stratton along with some parts of Covingham and Nythe, has a population of 21,436 according to the 2001 census. It is home to one of the town’s biggest employers, Honda, situated off Highworth Road, which employs around 4,000 people from across Swindon and beyond. One of the most famous landmarks in the area is the Arkells Brewery, in Beechcroft Road, the makers of some of the town’s favourite real ales. Within Stratton there are five primary schools, two secondary schools and two specialist schools. Stratton falls into two separate council wards. The first, St Margaret, covers Lower Stratton and the St Philip ward encompasses Upper Stratton.
The whole area is covered by Stratton St Margaret Parish Council. |
