TOWN may now be sitting in the record books alongside European giants Barcelona, but for red-faced Christian Roberts Tuesday night's shoot-out shocker was a night to forget.
The Welshman was one of four Town players to blunder from 12 yards in the third round FA Cup replay at Barnet, as Maurice Malpas' men took their unwanted place in football history.
It is believed Town have become the first side to miss their first four penalties in the FA Cup proper, while sharing that dubious honour in world football with Barcelona and Finnish side Haka.
Roberts is no stranger to stepping up from 12 yards, having already scored a couple of spot kicks for Town this season, but he knows there can be no excuses for last night's debacle.
While the shoot-out is a lottery, Town had three players missing the target and Roberts knows that is the cardinal sin of the art of penalty taking.
He said: "It was a very disappointing night. At the end of the day we were the players who wanted to take the penalty and so we deserve some credit for that.
"But we know there can be no excuses for the way we have taken them.
"You have to hit the target and unfortunately three of us didn't, that was the most disappointing part.
"I have taken and scored a couple of penalties already this season and I was really confident I would score. Like I said, it was a major disappointment."
Roberts had also previously experienced the pain of missing from the spot, having missed for Town last campaign, but he insists the pressure of the situation should not be used as an excuse.
He said: "Your everyday person might say that but we are professionals and should not let pressure affect us.
"It is certainly not a record we want to hold but I suppose if you are going to be in the record books, you may as well share it with someone like Barcelona.
"You have to make a decision when you are taking a penalty and stick to it, but it looks like we all made the wrong decision.
"Wrong decisions cost us on the night because even during the game if we had made better decisions we would have been celebrating a comfortable victory.
"We had the chances during the game but we are out of the FA Cup now and we have to concentrate on Saturday's trip to Crewe in the league."
