JAHMENE Douglas arrived in Swindon in style with his X Factor mentor Nicole Scherzinger... in a helicopter.
Although the pair were late after Nicole was delayed getting to the airport, they were still given the warmest – and loudest – of welcomes by dozens of pupils from Abbey Meads Primary School, just minutes after their helicopter landed in the playing field.
As the noise from the rotar blades died down, chants of ‘Jahmene, Jahmene’ started to rise and the singer looked overwhelmed as he stepped out of the chopper.
He went to meet the excited children, who had made banners especially for the occasion, and teachers, who were wearing ‘Vote Jahmene’ t-shirts.
The singer had just enough time to have pictures taken with the youngsters and sign the banners before being whisked away.
He said: “I just want to say a big thank you for all your support, you are all blessed.”
Year two teacher Gemma Hayes, who had designed her t-shirt with glitter, was as delighted as the children to see Jahmene.
“It is really exciting to have him landing in our school field,” she said.
“We have never experienced anything like this and I don’t think Swindon has either.
“The children have been very excited since we told them and they have made their own banners.
“All of Swindon is very proud of Jahmene and we all hope he wins.”
Six-year-old Katie-Jo said: “It is really exciting because Jahmene is really good on the X Factor.
“I have been watching every week and he is Jah-mazing.”
