A MAN arrested for stealing a vehicle and drink-driving yesterday following a crash near Stanton House Hotel has been charged with four offences.
A silver Ford Focus swerved off the road at Stanton Fitzwarren shortly before 11am and witnesses saw two men fleeing from the scene.
Several minutes later police officers found two men in the lay-by near to the entrance of the hotel and one was taken into custody.
Andrew Satchwith, 33, of Queens Avenue, has now been charged with drink-driving, failing to stop after a road accident, failing to report an accident and driving without a licence.
Shortly after the accident, the car was said to be smoking and leaking fluid in the road. It remained in bushes for just over an hour before it was removed.
A road-sign was also knocked down during the incident and a police cordon was put in place to control traffic but, despite being a narrow lane, the road was not closed.
