FIREFIGHTERS spent more than six hours putting out a barn fire in Purton Stoke in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Wiltshire Fire & Rescue were called to a farm at around 1.36am to find a barn containing around 20 tonnes of straw and hay well alight, which they took until around 8am to make completely safe.

All the contents of the barn were destroyed in the fire at the working dairy farm.

Crews from Stratton and Westlea attended the fire accompanied by a water carrier from Royal Wootton Bassett, and firefighters used one hsose reel jet and one main hose to extinguish the fire.

At around 6am the crews were relieved by firefighters from Corsham, who attended the blaze until 8am.
The cause of the fire has not been ascertained.
