A COACH caught fire on the M4 between junction 18-19 this morning closing the route in both directions for five hours.
The fire was reported just after 11am this morning after black smoke and flames were seen at the back of the vehicle. All passengers made it safely off the coach.
Three traffic lanes were immediately closed to allow emergency services to reach the scene. Highways England later recovered the vehicle and traffic was flowing freely by 4pm.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman had warned drivers to avoid the route: “Motorists should take extra care and expect some delays whilst this incident is being dealt with. We recommend that they listen to local radio for updates.”
