AN argument over money for cannabis led to a woman being assaulted twice, a court has heard.

James Conde, formerly of Rivergreen House, Swindon, but now living at Waterloo Way in Ringwood, pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting the mother of his child on March 31 and the following day when he appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court.

Vyvyan Thatcher, prosecuting, told the court that the couple had met on Facebook in 2013 and things had been going well, and they had had a child together. At the end of March they had gone to stay with the defendant’s mother for three weeks.

“There was an argument about money for cannabis,” he said.

“He got off the sofa and attacked her. She doesn’t remember anything after that. She was told that her head was struck against the wall.

“The next day there was a further argument concerning cannabis when he slammed her into the hallway floor. She describes herself as being in agony and had numerous bruises. She then goes on to say that she didn’t seek medical attention.”

But she was urged to report the matter to the police by family members.

Mr Thatcher added the relationship now appeared to be over and he had moved out of the address and was now living in Hampshire.

“He accepts that he has issues with anger management and cannabis,” he said.

District Judge Simon Cooper ordered that a pre-sentence report be prepared on 25-year-old Conde.

He said: “I am told that there has been a previous conviction of an assault on your mother. Here you battered the mother of your child I have seen the bruises – they are deeply unpleasant.

"What is important is that you get to see the probation service to discuss an alternative to a custodial sentence.”
