THE M4 was blocked with traffic queuing westbound between Junction 14 for Hungerford and Junction 15 for Swindon East because of a car fire.
One Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service crew from Ramsbury and two Royal Berkshire fire crews from Newbury dashed to the scene after getting a call just before 11.40am.
Newbury's Red Watch had to break off from water rescue training to tackle the blaze.
Highways England said one of the three lanes was closed, after the M4 westbound was shut for a time.
- Traffic conditions have now returned to normal with firefighters having left by 12.15pm.
Police confirmed that the occupants of the Audi A3 were not injured.
