SWINDON will be going dotty for Pudsey today as fundraisers across the town prepare to support the iconic TV fundraising extravaganza.
Supporters will be hoping to smash last year’s total of £37.1million as they join with countless other fundraisers up and down the country to support needy kids.
And despite the event being tinged with sadness following the passing of veteran host Sir Terry Wogan earlier this year, hosts Tess Daley and Graham Norton will kick events off live on BBC1 tonight from 7.30pm - with viewers promised that there will be tributes to him throughout the show.
A bit closer to home, school children and businesspeople alike will all be doing their bit to support the cause.
Isambard pupil Olivia Dowman, 12, will be dressing up for the limelight tonight as she takes to the ice for Children in Need.
Olivia, from Oakhurst, will be performing live in front of the BBC cameras at Bristol Ice Rink with fellow skaters from Swindon Ice Figure Club.
Olivia started skating four years ago with her friend and neighbour, Lauren, and took to the sport straight away.
There will be a coffee morning and cake sale at Lydiard Millicent Village Hall from 9am until noon which is open to all, with all money raised going to the cause.
Meanwhile employees at Corporate Events will be taking some time out of event planning to put on their trainers as they set out on a 10-hour treadmill relay to fundraise for the appeal.
Employees will take on 45 minute slots throughout the day today to keep their office treadmill moving for 10-hours.
Speaking of their plans, managing director Andy Ashley said: “It will be a fun day and it’s great to see the team coming together and everyone getting involved for such a great cause. We’d like to raise as much as possible though, so please do dig deep if you can.”
Some fundraisers have already held events to get the ball rolling, with Janet’s Puppy Skool hosting a fun event earlier in the month.
