TRAFFIC was delayed when M4 was closed between junctions 16 and 17 because of a camper van fire today.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the burning vehicle on the westbound carriageway just before 11.20am.
For a time the motorway was closed in both directions while smoke poured across the carriageways as crews from Swindon, Westlea and Royal Wootton Bassett wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire and cooled some gas cylinders.
The M4 eastbound was reopened soon after the fire was tackled with traffic moving on the M4 westbound by 1.15pm.
It is not thought that anyone was injured.
M4 J17 is now back open following the vehicle fire.
