The body of a man was found outside a block of flats near the train station on Sunday morning.
The body is thought to have been found under stairs by the entrance to Wellington House, Wellington Street, opposite the Arkells Great Western pub.
A resident of the flats, who wanted to remain anonymous, told the Adver: "It was just there in the corner. Another resident saw it and reported it around 9am. We didn't see anything, but it was a man. I was afraid to see, otherwise I wouldn't be able to sleep."
A spokesperson for South West Ambulance Service said: "We can confirm we attended an incident on Wellington Street at around 10.04am on Sunday. Due to the sensitive nature of the incident it is being investigated by the police."
There were unconfirmed reports the body was of a homeless man but police have chosen not to release any more details at this stage.
