A lorry fire is causing problems on the M4 this morning.

The HGV caught fire in the early hours of Friday morning between junctions 14 and 15 for Hungerford and Swindon respectively, with emergency services in attendance.

Traffic on the westbound carriageway was stopped for around 30 minutes before lane three reopened.

Two of the three lanes were still shut at 7.30am.

Police have confirmed that nobody was injured or arrested.

Motorists are being warned to expect delays of up to 30 minutes with approximately three miles of congestion according to Highways England.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 1.26am, firefighters from Ramsbury supported by Hungerford and Newbury (Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service) were called to reports of a lorry fire on the M4 between junctions 14 and 15.

"Specialist vehicles including a water carrier and the aerial ladder platform also attended this incident."

When asked to comment a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "We attended in support of fire service colleagues from lorry fire between J14 and J15 of the M4 which was reported at about 1.40am this morning (15/07).

"Lanes 1 and 2 of the westbound were closed to allow the fire service to deal with the incident.

"There were no arrests at the scene and thankfully no reported injuries."

UPDATE

All lanes on the M4 have reopened but there are now five miles of queuing traffic and delays of up to 50 minutes.
