THE dramatic moment a camper van burst into flames on the M4 was caught on camera by a member of the public.
Emergency services including two crews from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue were called to the M4 between J17 and J16 at 10.52am on Monday morning.
The fire was extinguished but the camper van could not be saved.
The smouldering wreckage of the vehicle then prompted another 999 call leading to another fire crew attending.
A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We were called to the M4 eastbound between J17 and J16 at 10.52am this morning after a camper van caught fire.
"Two crews attended, from Westlea and Chippenham, and two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire.
"However, the van was destroyed. Our stop was at 11.59am.
"One crew from Chippenham did reattend after a call at 12.51pm but this was a false alarm with good intent.
"The fire was out but steam was still rising from the burnt-out vehicle."
No one is believed to have been injured in the incident.
The eastbound carriageway of the motorway was closed between Junctions 16 and 17 at around 11.20am.
Two lanes were then reopened for recovery work before the road was fully reopened in all lanes.
