Huge car fire in Malmesbury sees fire crews rush to scene

Crews from Malmesbury rushed to Park Road, near the Huws Gray builders merchants, at around 5.45pm on Tuesday, October 3.

A car burst into flames and, by the time emergency services arrived, the vehicle had been completely destroyed by the blaze.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the inferno and shortly after 6.30pm the fire was brought under control.

The carriageway was then cleared of debris.

One witness, Terry Mathews, described the sudden blaze as “spectacular” and praised the efforts of firefighters who quickly extinguished any danger.

He said: “I live not far away and there seemed to be a lot of people out in the street to see what was going on.

“It was quite a big fire, the fire service was absolutely brilliant because they were there so quickly and were so efficient.

“It was quite spectacular because the tyres burst and there was lots of smoke, if the fire had spread to the builder’s yard it could have been quite serious, but they acted quickly.”
