Swindon and Wiltshire Pride has been recognised with a “special” award after thousands of people came together for last year’s celebration.
The group was named Community Group of the Year at the Wiltshire Life Awards on Friday, March 8, after celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2023.
Last year’s Pride event attracted over 6,500 people to Queens Park in Swindon.
During her acceptance speech, trustee Denise Dymond said: “We’re grateful for Wiltshire for embracing diversity and enabling us to continue our mission to support equality within the community.
“We would be nothing without our community.
“It’s not just a charity, it’s a family.”
The volunteer-led group works to “promote equality and diversity” and “eliminate discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity”.
The charity’s chairperson, Paul Stewart, added: "We are truly humbled to be recognised for the hard work Swindon and Wiltshire Pride do.
“Being nominated alongside community groups that are the true pride of Wiltshire is very special.
“We dedicate this award to all those working to make their community a better place, there’s a unique and powerful bond when you come together and make real change happen.”
The Wiltshire Life Awards were held in Devizes and aim to champion “tales of creative endeavour, bravery, and community spirit.”
