Delivery drivers are set to go on strike at a distribution centre in Swindon, which could cause major disruption to B&Q.

More than 100 employees at a GXO distribution centre in Swindon, which is contracted by B&Q, have voted to take industrial action.

This comes after the GXO's offer of a 5.25 per cent pay increase was rejected, according to the shopworker union Usdaw.

The strike action is set to take place at the Swindon distribution centre on Highworth Road during the week beginning March 18, and the union has warned that the strike will "disrupt supplies to B&Q stores".

“Our members at GXO Swindon voted to reject the company’s offer of 5.25 per cent and we remain disappointed that we have been unable to reach a resolution the dispute," said Rab Donnelly, Usdaw regional secretary.

"These ballot results clearly demonstrate that the current offer is unacceptable to our members.

"In the midst of a cost of living crisis and the raging inflation of the last year, this offer amounts to a real-terms pay cut.

"We have further discussions planned with the company under the auspices of ACAS and remain open to negotiation. The company need to improve the offer that is on the table.

“Any industrial action will inevitably disrupt supplies to B&Q stores in the region and we urge managers to do the right and reasonable thing and make an offer that is acceptable to members in order to resolve the dispute.”

But according to GXO, the strike is not necessary and the company are open to finding a resolution.

A spokesperson for GXO added: "We have already made an enhanced offer as part of these negotiations through ACAS.

"We are disappointed that this enhanced offer has not been communicated to our colleagues and we are open to work with ACAS and USDAW to find a resolution.

"We are working closely with our customer, and are confident we can mitigate the impact of the industrial action.”

B&Q head office was also contacted for comment but has yet to respond.
