A Swindon man has been charged with causing the death of a pedestrian in a crash on Drakes Way more than two years ago.

Darren Roberts stands accused of killing Neil Sharp while riding his motorbike on one of the town's busiest roads on the evening of January 31, 2022.

He is alleged to have caused the death of Neil Sharp by dangerous driving at around 8.35pm that night on the road in Walcot.

The 21-year-old of Barnfield Close, Rodbourne, has also been charged with possession of cocaine with intent to supply the class-A drug.

Wiltshire Police said at the time the victim, Mr Sharp, was in his 30s.

Roberts was taken to hospital with a suspected broken arm. His arm hung limp at his side during his first appearance at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (April 24).

The two offences will be heard together when Roberts next appears at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, May 24, for a pre-trial preparation hearing.

He has been released on unconditional bail until then.

The defence was provided by Mr Khan, with Mr Cooper prosecuting for the crown. 

Mr Roberts spoke only to say “I will be there” and to affirm his understanding of the bail conditions.

Police have been investigating the crash for more than two years and told this newspaper there had been no updates, arrests or charges as of February 15, 2024.

Police were seen testing the road conditions in the immediate aftermath of the crash on February 1, 2022.
