Police officers in Swindon hosted a knife crime and advice pop up event at a local supermarket to speak to people about the issues local communities face.

On Saturday (May 18), officers from Stratton, Central North and West Swindon Neighbourhood Policing Team were at Asda West Swindon engaging with the local community, handing out leaflets and sharing advice on how to stay safe.

A few of their crime prevention tips included keeping homes well lit at night, making sure homes and vehicles are locked, as well as staying alert and reporting any suspicious activity.

The advice also included avoiding confrontation and talking to young people about the dangers of knife crime and carrying weapons.

A statement from Swindon Police said: “PC Windsor would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone that came over and spoke to us and as always if you have any concerns regarding your community call 101 or by submitting an online report.”

It comes as Swindon police sergeant Tom Ashforth has been speaking to the media this week with his recollections of a fatal stabbing in east Swindon in the middle of the night in 2012 to raise awareness of knife crime.
