ON April 27 the Friends of Old Town Library arranged a public meeting at the Arts Centre to give residents an opportunity to hear the facts regarding council proposals to close several libraries, and to enable them to give an informed response to the current consultation on libraries.
All councillors were invited but only three attended, one Liberal and two Labour. As the Old Town Library was involved it would have made sense if at least one of the three Tory councillors representing Old Town had attended to support their residents or give a council view.
Despite this lack of involvement by our councillors it is hoped that residents will respond to the consultation on local libraries and send their views to the council before the end of May.
