TEAMS are still needed for a charity football tournament this weekend as it aims to raise money for disadvantaged young people in the town.
The five-a-side competition, taking place on Sunday at Futsal indoor arena, in Kembrey Park, will be staged in aid of local charity Swindon Ten to Eighteen Project.
It will be a Champions League format, with 16 teams competing in a group stage before going through to a knockout stage as they bid to win the trophy and prizes including paintball vouchers, pitch hire vouchers and bar vouchers.
Futsal sales manager Dom Virgillio said he hoped to raise a lot of money for STEP, a charity the arena has supported in the past.
He said: “I’m hoping this will be a great tournament and will raise a bit of money for a good cause at the same time.
“We are a big supporter of STEP, who work with underprivileged kids and football can be a positive thing for them too.
“We are still looking for a few more teams so I would urge people to get involved.
“We have some great prizes available, including a paintball session, and you can have a kickabout with your mates while doing something for charity.”
Last month TOTAL Guide To Swindon and IT software services company InfoSys Ltd put on a 24-hour marathon football event at Futsal, to raise funds for STEP, based in Nythe.
Entry to the tournament, which kicks off at 4pm, costs £40 a team, with a maximum of seven players, all who must be over the age of 16. FA Futsal referees will be supplied.
To guarantee your team’s entry, a £20 deposit is required in advance and can be paid either at the arena, by calling 01793 617072, or online via PayPal through www.futsaluk.net.
Swindon Ten to Eighteen Project is a registered charity, providing a safe and supportive environment for children and young people aged ten to 18. To find out more visit www.justgiving.com/
