SWINDON Town Football in the Community’s football and Futsal boys A team are set to represent the club in Birmingham today at the Football League Trust National Futsal Finals.
In a remarkable first year, the Wiltshire side have managed to qualify from the regional league which includes the likes of Bournemouth, Reading, Southampton, Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City.
Coach Luke Sharps has been delighted with the team’s progress and praised his squad for their efforts.
"They have been tremendous this year and have had to learn quickly from their mistakes as they can easily be punished in Futsal,” he said.
"The team has had a fantastic attitude, stayed positive and has deserved their shot at the Futsal title."
The futsal programme is not just about playing the game but also features a detailed education programme that allows the students to develop in the game they love as well as gaining academic qualifications.
Those involved also have the opportunity to progess onto the FA Level Two coaching qualification to further enhance their knowledge of the sport and increase their chances of employment.
Clive Maguire, Trust manager, said: "The Futsal programme has had a fantastic first year and we are looking forward to welcoming a full allocation of boys from September.
“Intel have been instrumental in the support of our IT within our educational classroom at croft and we can't thank Darren Howell and his team enough for their continued support"
The Trust have still got two places remaining for the girls’ Futsal programme, which starts in September. Interested girls should contact Luke Sharps on 01793421303 or email luke@stfc-fitc.co.uk.
