STRIKER Kayden Jackson believes he is close to meeting the required standard to play in the Swindon Town first team and is hopeful his latest loan will take him a big step closer to fulfilling his professional dream.
The Samsung Win a Pro contract winner was recalled from a successful loan stint with Swindon Supermarine on Tuesday and was immediately sent back out to Conference North side Oxford City, two levels higher up the football pyramid.
While out on loan Jackson continues to train with the Town first team and has been pleased with his performance in recent weeks, which has increased his hopes of making his professional debut sooner rather than later.
“I’ve been training well recently and hopefully my next loan will get me a little bit closer to getting a chance,” he said.
“The whole reason I entered the competition in the first place was because I wanted to be playing first team football in League One and it would be amazing for me.
“I want to be playing here for years to come and hopefully this can help me do that.
“Not a lot’s been said at the moment, but training how I have been at the moment makes me feel like it (a Town debut) isn’t too far off, although that’s only my opinion.
“I’m not the management and I’m not the board so I can’t say what will happen but I have been training well and I’m feeling really good.
“At the beginning I got an injury in pre-season and then after that my confidence wasn’t the best but ever since my loan to Supermarine I’ve been training at a different level and that will do me well.”
Jackson will be involved with City for the first time away at Harrogate Town on Saturday and is looking forward to taking another step up.
“It’s going to be another good test and hopefully I can get a few more goals and play well to help the team out,” he said.
“All I concentrate on is progressing in every game and make sure I improve and that’s the main thing for me.
“They are a good club and they play at a good level so it will be really good for me to take another step forward.”
While with Marine Jackson scored 12 goals in 14 games and was pleased with what he was able to produce while with Dave Webb’s side.
“It was all really good and a successful couple of months for me, and after scoring in my first game it all just seemed to get better and better,” he said.
“I scored goals and that really helped with my confidence levels because I’ve never really played as an out-and-out striker in senior football so it was good to show I can do that.”
“It was a good level, maybe a bit above where I was before, but physical with a lot of teams who don’t try and play too much football.”
