KAYDEN Jackson is not in Mark Cooper’s immediate thoughts but the Swindon boss is keeping a firm eye on the youngster’s progress.

The Samsung Win a Pro Contract winner this week joined Oxford City on loan following a hugely successful temporary spell with Swindon Supermarine; which saw him score 12 goals in 14 outings.

Cooper has been impressed with what he has heard about Jackson’s performances at the Webb’s Wood Stadium, and although he isn’t currently in his first team plans the Town manager is monitoring his progress closely.

“Kayden has done really well for Swindon Supermarine, and he went there on a third month’s loan, but he was insistent that if he did go out there again he wanted a clause allowing him to move if a club from a higher level came in,” he said.

“Obviously Oxford came in and that’s two levels higher for him and he wants to test himself there.

“He’s obviously got something because he’s scoring goals but we need to find out just how good he really is.

“He’s improving in training and you have to remember where he comes from, but he’s getting better and the games will do him the world of good.

“If ever we’re not playing I will go and watch, although I haven’t managed it yet, but I’ve had people get reports on him for me and they’ve all been positive.

“He’s not in our immediate thoughts but he is one we need to keep an eye on.”

Connor Waldon became the latest young Town play to go out on loan when he moved to Gloucester City on Thursday and Cooper believes playing senior football is exactly what they need.

“They need to be playing and keep on getting that experience of what winning and losing means,” he said.

Jackson and Waldon could make their debuts for their loan clubs today against Harrogate and Bradford Park Avenue respectively.

Cooper has also had his say on Chippenham Town manager Steve Winter’s sacking after only 14 games in charge at Hardenhuish Park.

He said: “I think it’s ridiculous. If you give a manager a job I think you should give him the length of his contract or a minimum of two seasons because if you appoint someone you have to give them the chance to do it otherwise you’ve made the wrong appointment.

“They should back their managers and give them the chance to work and put things in place because you will never get anywhere changing managers every 14 or 15 games.”
