LIVERPOOL trialist Lawrence Vigouroux did enough in Swindon Town’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of his parent club to impress manager Mark Cooper.
The Town boss hinted that as a result of the man of the match performance he would try to tie the 21-year-old stopper down to a deal at the County Ground over drinks with Brendan Rodgers after yesterday’s game.
Cooper also joked that he would attempt to include Belgian striker Christian Benteke in the deal, after his spectacular first goal gave Vigouroux no chance.
“Brendan’s coming for a drink in a minute so we are going to try and get him and maybe the big lad up front and scored the first goal, maybe we can get him as well,” said Cooper.
“I thought he (Vigouroux) did really well; he made some brilliant saves, he came off his line really well and with anything over the top he’d come and deal with it.
“His distribution was good. I thought he did really well, hence the reason he probably got man of the match.”
Meanwhile Cooper is hoping to have Drissa Traore and Michael Smith available for selection for the start of the new season next weekend.
Defensive midfielder Traore hobbled off the pitch just past the half hour mark after pulling up with nobody around him, but Cooper said the move was just to protect the Ivorian.
“It was just precautionary with a tight hamstring, so we didn’t want to take any chances with him,” he said.
Smith, who was seen in the stands against Liverpool, missed the game after sustaining a dead leg in a behind-closed door friendly with QPR last week.
“He got a dead leg against QPR on Wednesday,” added Cooper.
“He is naturally a really fit lad so we are not concerned about him.”
