GOALKEEPER Lawrence Vigouroux says Swindon Town have found their identity as they look to start the new year with a bang.
After a tough start to the 2015-16 campaign, a run of five wins in six games in League One saw them march up the table, although progress was somewhat stalled by back-to-back defeats against Gillingham and Burton Albion over the festive period.
However, those two losses came against two of the division’s top three sides and Town were more than capable of travelling back from Burton’s Pirelli Stadium on Monday with something to show for their efforts.
Vigouroux, who is on a season-long loan at the County Ground from Premier League giants Liverpool, says there is plenty of confidence in the Town camp these days and has backed his team-mates to return to winning ways away at Port Vale this afternoon.
“We were disappointed (on Monday) but I think we will bounce back against Port Vale,” Vigouroux told the local media.
“We’ve just got to go again. Port Vale will be a tough game again but I think we have got a great group of lads here and we will go for a win there.
“We have got our identity now and a good style of play. If the fans can buy into it and believe in us then we can do anything we want.
“We can go on a late little run, we’ve proved it over the last six or seven games as we’ve won five of those.
“I think we just need to keep going and we’ll go into the new year full of confidence trying to get more points.”
Close to 1,000 Swindon fans travelled north to Burton on Bank Holiday Monday and they were treated to one of the team’s best away performances of the season as they suffered a harsh 1-0 loss.
Vigouroux says Town’s good showing was in no small part down to the vocal support they had behind them and hopes an equally large group of fans will make the trip to Vale Park this afternoon.
“That crowd was fantastic, they were behind us the whole game. I really appreciate the fans and that came out (on Monday),” added Vigouroux.
“I’m really happy that we had that support, I just hope we can bring another big following on Saturday against Port Vale and they can cheer us on to victory.”
