LAWRENCE Vigouroux admits he was delighted to have his return to Swindon Town finally rubber-stamped after confirming a three-year deal at the County Ground yesterday.
Goalkeeper Vigouroux sealed a permanent move to Wiltshire after impressing during a loan stint from Premier League giants Liverpool last term, which was eventually cut short by injury.
The Chile U20 international proved an astute capture during a difficult season for Town, yesterday’s confirmation concluding chairman Lee Power’s long-held mission to bring the stopper back in on a permanent basis.
The 22-year-old, who began his career at Tottenham Hotspur, has joined for an undisclosed fee, which is thought to be in the region of £400,000.
Vigouroux nearly saw his time in Wiltshire cut short last term after paying a £50 club fine in one pence pieces, but made 36 appearances for Town during the League One campaign before a thigh injury curtailed his campaign and he returned to Anfield.
Town’s interest never waned however and the player admitted the decision to head south again was an easy one for him to make.
“It was a no-brainer to come back here,’’ he told BBC Wiltshire.
“There’s a great bunch of lads in there (Town squad) as well so I’m really happy to be back here.
“It won’t take me a while to know the lads because I know a bunch of them already.
“It will be just knowing the new players and helping them settle as well so I’m just happy that I’m back here and I hope I can help the team achieve some good things this season.’’ Vigouroux has few concerns about his fitness despite the severity of the injury which saw him miss the conclusion of last season.
He added: “I went away to recharge the batteries because obviously I was injured for about three months.
“I just needed to get away and take my mind off football for a little bit.
“It’s a great club with a great manager and great players, so I’m just really happy to be here.’’
