KELLY Morgan is unlikely to have home advantage when she gets to fight for a dream world title.
The 36-year-old WBC Silver middleweight champion is being lined up for a potential fight with either middleweight queen Kali Reis or super-middleweight ruler Nikki Adler this autumn.
However, Morgan’s manager/trainer Richard Farnan admits that the 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist will more than likely have to travel.
“When you don’t have a big promoter behind you then it will be very difficult in getting a champion to travel,” Farnan told the Advertiser.
“But that doesn’t bother us, let’s go there and do it. Having watched Nikki’s and Kali’s fights I’m not overly concerned about what they have.
“They are both good fighters but they have managed to dictate the pace and have things their own way. Against Kelly they wouldn’t be able to do that and I believe that Kelly also has the power.”
Farnan says that he has approached two of the country’s top promoters, Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, about staging female boxing.
“Frank Warren and Matchroom aren’t interested on putting on female boxing,” Farnan said.
“Mick Hennessy is interested – he likes (Ireland’s Olympic lightweight champion) Katie Taylor and I’ve have also tried to make contact with the Sauerlands.
“They promote (WBC super-welterweight champion) Mikaela Lauren and we do a lot of work with Mikaela so they do know about Kelly – it is just getting hold of them as they are both so busy.
“The interesting one is (Matthew Macklin’s) MGM. There have been some interesting talks there, but at the moment we are independent and just doing our own thing.”
Morgan returned to training last week with a potential fight in September on the horizon.
“We are working towards a ticking-over fight in September,” Farnan said.
“We are also looking at October/November for a world title fight.
“I’ve sent a couple of emails out and waiting for a response, if we could get it sorted by mid-August that would be great.
“But we are back in training – first for a six or an eight rounder and then hopefully a world title fight in the autumn.”
