MIDFIELDER Sean Murray has become the fourth player to depart Swindon Town this January transfer window after having his contract terminated.
The 23-year-old, who only joined the club last summer on a free transfer after leaving Premier League side Watford, has immediately signed for League Two Colchester United.
Murray made 13 league starts for Town, his last coming at home to Shrewsbury Town in a 1-1 draw at the County Ground.
However, the Watford youth product seemed to fall out of favour at the club following the arrival of director of football Tim Sherwood – making six starts in all competitions since Sherwood’s announcement on November 10.
Having started the last two development games for Town to gain match fitness, Murray was an unused substitute at the Memorial Ground on Saturday and did not travel to Newport with the development team today as a result of his impending move.
Murray becomes Colchester’s third signing of the week and joins them in ninth place in League Two, two points off of the play-off places.
