SWINDON Wildcats player-coach Aaron Nell acknowledges his side will take a different approach this weekend as they come up against Milton Keynes Lightning for the second time in the space of a week.
Last weekend, the Wildcats claimed an impressive 2-1 overtime win over MK at the Link Centre.
Reflecting on the weekend, the Wildcats chief was delighted with how his side recovered from an 8-2 demolition by Telford Tigers a week prior to claim victory.
Nell is also more than aware that his team will have to go into the game differently as they travel to Planet Ice tomorrow.
“It was very impressive in the way that we bounced back. We were under a bit of pressure from the week before,” said Nell.
“It was great character from the players.
“Being on the bigger ice we have to play a little bit differently, but it is all about coming in and being prepared to do the little things on the day.
“We know that they are a very good team and if we want to beat them, especially at their place, we need to out work them and want it more than them.”
The Wildcats are currently seventh in the league standing going into this weekend’s double header with MK Lightning and Bracknell Bees.
But with the play-offs looming, Nell is urging his side to stay focussed on the task in hand as he highlights the importance of form as they head into the final few months of the campaign.
“It’s about taking it a game at a time. We know that we have a way we need to play and if we play that way we will have a chance of winning,” added Nell “We have got to take it as it comes. When it comes to playing Bracknell on Sunday, we have to be ready to work extremely hard and put in another good performance.
“At this time of the year, that is all we can do, to be ready for the play-offs and be one of the form teams for them.
“With the play-offs being a lot longer this year, you can’t just turn up and have a good weekend and play two good games.
“We are going to have to be consistent. I know everyone will be excited for them so we just have to be ready.”
The Wildcats will also be without Sam Bullas after he sustained a leg injury during the second period of their 2-1 win last weekend.
