GOALKEEPER Lawrence Vigouroux says he and his Swindon Town team-mates need to forget about the League One table in order to boost their survival fight.
A 1-0 defeat at home to second-from-bottom Chesterfield last weekend meant Town were unable to climb out of the drop zone and they remain three points from safety.
Town travel to take on another side in the bottom four, Port Vale, on Saturday before table-toppers Sheffield United travel to the County Ground next Tuesday.
Vigouroux believes fretting over their current position in the standings will do Town no good at all and has instead put the onus on producing good performances in a bid to retain their League One status.
“I don’t think we should even look at the table, we have just got to worry about ourselves,” said 23-year-old Vigouroux.
“We have got to win a specific amount of games to get ourselves out of it. The more we look, the more we can worry about what could happen, so the most important thing is just to win games.
“We play Port Vale this week and it will be a tough game and after that, we have another game here at home.
"Hopefully we can get something.
“We have to not worry about the table, we have just got to get the amount of points that will get us out of the bottom four and I think we will do that.”
Vigouroux conceded that the loss to the struggling Spireites stopped Swindon’s recent revival in its tracks.
Town had taken seven points from nine before the defeat but the former Liverpool stopper says it is pointless to dwell on that disappointment now.
“It was a sickener, really. I think we deserved to win and I would have been disappointed if we had even drawn that game but we have just got to take the bad with the good,” said Vigouroux.
“We have got to dust ourselves off and go again. We have got 10 games left and there’s no point getting upset about it.
“It hurt but we will come back and we have got to give ourselves the best opportunity for Port Vale on Saturday and that’s the most important thing.”
