SWINDON Town head coach Luke Williams is confident goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux’s thumb injury will not hinder him during tomorrow night’s game with Sheffield United as it continues to heal.
Williams was vague on when the injury was sustained but revealed that the 23-year-old has been playing with the ailment, a hairline fracture, for some time.
However, now that it is on the mend, with the Town stopper enjoying more mobility in the area, Williams believes it won’t be a cause for concern against the Blades at the County Ground tomorrow.
“I think it is more like a hairline fracture but it has been long enough now for it to have healed,” he said.
“We know the bone is completely intact again and there is no ongoing problems with that.
"It’s actually on the mend but it's still not functioning. Today, he has reported it is a lot better.
"I don't think he has done any more damage to it, it's just painful and lacking mobility. There's no strapping on it today and he has had a couple more days to ice it and try to bring the swelling down and get it functioning.
“He has been playing with it but I feel that now it is on the mend, we can probably talk about it a bit more.
“I don’t think it is going to be a problem from here on in but having watched the game back, there are a couple of efforts that Lawrence would normally hold and catch but he doesn’t and I’m sure it has got some part to play in that.”
Meanwhile, Williams believes it is too early to say whether midfielder Yaser Kasim and striker Jordan Stewart will be fit to feature against the Blades as both continue to recover from illness.
When asked about new injuries ahead of tomorrow night’s clash, he replied: "There’s nothing fresh from Saturday. (Kasim and Stewart) are both in the club and we have to assess their fitness.
"They've both been ill, Yaser for a while and we'll have to assess where they are in terms of their fitness levels.
"I should think (tomorrow is too soon) but we will know more when they are finished with their fitness coach."
