SWINDON Town managed to hold to star goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux on a busy transfer deadline day at the County Ground.
The former Chilean youth international had been linked with a move away from the club over the summer, but when the window shut last night the 23-year-old was still part of David Flitcroft’s squad.
The former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur youngster, who swept the board with player of the season awards last term, is contracted at the County Ground until the end of next season.
Town chief Flitcroft, following the 1-0 win at Morecambe last month, when asked if it will be a battle to keep hold of Vigouroux, said: “I don’t think so, no.
“The chairman wants to keep him, he wants to be successful this season, I do and we’ll just keep moving forward.
“It’s important (that we keep Vigouroux) but it’s important that I keep all the players here.
“We’re trying to build something and it’s important that we keep hold of players.
“Lawrence is no different from any player, I don’t treat him any different from any of the other players, it’s a team performance and I’ll always look towards that.”
With Vigouroux staying at the County Ground, he now faces increased competition for the number one spot after the signing of Reice Charles-Cook from League Two rivals Coventry City on a two-year deal.
The former Arsenal youngster was one of three new signings at Town yesterday, with Kellan Gordon and Timi Elsnik arriving on season long loans from Derby County, while Keshi Anderson also joined on a six-month loan from Crystal Palace.
Flitcroft said that he wanted to sign a wide player with winger Gordon fitting that bill, while Elsnik is a central midfielder.
