SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb says he is down to the bare bones of a squad for this weekend’s clash with Wimborne Town.
Webb’s troops suffered their first league defeat of the season when they came up against Taunton Town last Saturday and were left battered and bruised by the visitors.
Top scorer Josh Parsons heads the list, while Aaron Woodley, John Else, Ash Taylor and Zac Westlake, who came off with a groin complaint, all joined him in the treatment room.
Despite being given a few extra days to recover as their Wiltshire Senior Cup tie with Ludgershall Sports was called off, Webb says a number of players will still be struggling.
“It’s not great by any means, we picked up some injuries over the weekend on top of the ones we already had,” said Webb.
“At the moment, Aaron Woodley is still a few weeks away, at best, so that is disappointing, Josh Parsons missed last weekend and he’s very doubtful for Saturday.
“John Else obviously had a head injury, he’s still not feeling his usual self so he is definitely out with that.
“Ash Taylor has a foot and facial injury, his foot is probably more sore than his face and he is now waiting for an MRI scan on his foot.
“Zac Westlake came off with groin problem that he was having in the week so I’d say he is 50-50 for the game.
“We have an 18-man squad and that is five names so you can count the numbers for yourself to see how stretched we are.”
Three points separate the two teams going into the clash, Marine currently sit sixth in the table with 17 points with Wimborne in 11th.
“It’s a massive test for us, Wimborne are a good side, especially at home,” he added.
“They try and play the right way so it should be a good game but I am currently looking at options because some of these players will be out for a few weeks.
“You can handle one or two, but you can’t lose five players and expect to survive so it is a test for all of us.”
