DEFENDER Joe Romanski says he is waiting for the green light as the teenager sets his sights on a Swindon Town debut before the end of the season.
Swindon take on Grimsby Town at the Energy Check County Ground today as they look to hone in on the League Two play-off spots, with the club currently four points adrift.
Romanski, who has appeared on the bench for the club five times this season, says he has been busy working in the background as he waits to be handed his chance.
“I’m not sure when it (his debut) will be. I am just working hard in training, making sure that if I do get the chance to play, then I’m ready. If it does come, I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
“If it isn’t this weekend, I’ll keep working hard, building myself in the gym to make sure I am ready.
“I’m a defender. I play as a centre back or a left-back. I like to get stuck in, I’m aggressive but I also see myself as a ball player.
“Whether it is on or not to play the ball, I think I am quite clever in the decisions I make on the field. I know the triggers.”
Former Town boss David Flitcroft opted to name the 18-year-old as a substitute this season but Romanski says since the arrival of former Hull City manager Phil Brown in Wiltshire, he has been made to feel part of the first-team picture.
“Coming into the season, making my debut was always the main goal. I’m just taking it day by day, working hard and spending time in the gym doing extras,” he added.
“I’m with a good bunch of lads and I’m trying to make sure that I am ready physically and mentally.
“Over the season, my involvement with the first team has been off and on. I’ve trained with the first team and back down with the youth team.
“Since the new manager has come in, he has made me feel like part of the team. I train regularly with them, I eat with them and I go to the gym with them.”
