TWO goals in two second-half minutes from front man Sam Baldock subjected Town to a 2-1 defeat at MK Dons this afternoon.
Cuthbert nodded in Sean Morrison's long throw with half time looming to give Danny Wilson's men a lead they scarcely deserved.
But Baldock netted from close range in the 72nd and 73rd minutes to put the hosts ahead, and Town's misery was compounded when David Prutton picked up his second yellow card for an ill-judged lunge late on.
Here are the key moment's from today's game:
5 mins: Sam Baldock is put through by a quickly taken free kick from deep by Peter Leven, but his shot deflects well over the bar.
12 mins: The hosts win a free kick 20 yards out and Peter Leven backheels it to Jermaine Easter who fires low to David Lucas' right, but the goalkeeper is equal to it.
18 mins: A shot from Jermaine Easter flashes over from just outside the area.
22 mins: Angelo Balanta skips through a couple of challenges in the area and then past Lucas but the balls rolls out harmlessly for a goal kick.
28 mins: Jon-Paul McGovern crosses with his left peg and Mathias Kouo-Doumbe's misjudged header is looping into the net, only for stopper David Martin to backpedal and tip it over the bar.
37 mins: Easter gets away from Sean Morrison in the area but the angle is acute and he fires off-target.
40 mins: Balanta tees up Leven who fires through a mass of bodies and Lucas gathers at the second attempt.
45 mins: Thomas Dossevi shoots tamely at Martin in the visitors' first shot on target.
45+1 mins (GOAL 0-1 Cuthbert): Out of nothing, Town win a throw-in by the corner flag and Sean Morrison launches it towards the near post, where Scott Cuthbert helps the ball into the far corner with his head from an improbable angle.
52 mins: Balanta tests Lucas and when the stopper cannot hold it Easter skies his follow-up when off-balance.
53 mins: David Prutton's long-range drive is swinging just wide of the post but an MK Dons head ensures Town get a corner.
61 mins: Ex-Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann nearly sends a cross over Lucas and into the net, but the goalkeeper tips over. From the resulting corner, Kouo-Doube heads wide a presentable opportunity.
72 mins (GOAL 1-1 Baldock): After Lucas saves superbly with his legs from Baldock, MK take a quick corner and Baldock this time beats the goalkeeper with his head at the near post.
73 mins (GOAL 1-2 Baldock): Disaster for the visitors as they concede for the second time in two minutes. MK win another corner and Lucas makes a good save from the initial header but Baldock is on hand to bundle in from a couple of yards out.
86 mins: Substitute Lewis Guy breaks free down the right and crosses low but Baldock sends his shot wide at the near post under pressure.
87 mins: Prutton jumps into a challenge late in midfield and referee Karl Evans brandishes a second yellow card to the midfielder.
