KESHI Anderson’s 89th-minute strike handed Swindon Town the three points after a dominant performance at Huish Park that looked like not being rewarded.
Anderson slammed home substitute Kaiyne Woolery’s pass from 12 yards as Town completed their comeback having fallen behind in the early stages off the match.
Rhys Browne took advantage of some dozy early defending to give the Glovers the early lead courtesy of a deflected strike on four minutes and, despite dominating the majority of the first half, the visitors were unable to get back on terms before half-time.
But substitute Kellan Gordon crashed home the equaliser after more foraging by Anderson midway through the second period before the on-loan Crystal Palace man blasted home the winner after Woolery’s willing running.
In truth, it was no more than David Flitcroft’s men deserved, having been clearly the better side throughout, while often being wasteful of careless in front of goal, where Yeovil’s Artur Krysiak performed superbly.
Arguably Town’s headline team news came on the bench where goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux returned after a 10-game absence.
On the pitch, last weekend’s injury victim Amine Linganzi missed out as John Goddard came in, with Kaine Woolery dropping to the bench as top scorer Luke Norris joined fellow big man Harry Smith up top.
Yeovil arrived off the back of a 4-0 hiding at Carlisle last weekend but it was the Glovers that were on it from the first whistle, as the visitors looked decidedly sluggish.
After forcing an early corner which came to nothing, the hosts grabbed the lead in the fourth minutes, with Swindon caught dozing.
Rhys Browne picked up a loose ball at the right edge of the area and galloped past the exposed Matt Taylor before bearing down on Reice Charles-Cook’s goal.
The low cross was threatening, too much so for Town’s defence as it was diverted high into the net.
Town tried to get things going with Norris nodding straight at Yeovil keeper Artur Krysiak before the hosts’ Tom James had a sighter with a 35-yard free kick that flew two or three yards over.
Norris was then denied by Sid Nelson after finding space from a Goddard ball in the left edge of the box but Town’s threat continued to mount.
They went close on 25 minutes as Keshi Anderson turned and let fly with his left foot from the edge of the box, the ball evaded Smith and the far post, to gasps from the crowd to indicate how close it had come.
The visitors went even closer a minute later as a totally unmarked Smith teed up Timi Elsnik from no more than four yards but the Slovenian’s effort was somehow blocked over the top by a lunging James.
Norris nodded harmlessly wide from a floating cross after Smith had hassled Yeovil’s Nathan Smith into an error on the right touchline before there were more gasps just after the half hour as Taylor’s free kick from all of 35 yards billowed the net but, unfortunately for the visitors, it was the side-netting.
Swindon were well on top but were given another warning as James let fly from 35 yards again with a free kick, Charles-Cook parrying it out to Sam Surridge, who shot miles over.
Yet Town could have been level before the break as Goddard played in Anderson down the right and he stood up a cross which Elsnik looped goalwards with his head, only for Krysiak to claw it out superbly.
It was all action at the start of the second half as Browne sent in a cross to no one from the right for the hosts before Goddard and Anderson had shots blocked at the other end.
Town lost Elsnik to a muscle pull, Kellan Gordon coming on before Yeovil’s James and Town’s Purkiss exchanged yellow cards.
Town were still making all the running though and five minutes after Woolery had replaced Norris, the visitors were level.
Anderson made progress towards the box and after Smith's rasping low drive had been well saved by Krysiak, Anderson regained possession and laid it back to substitute Gordon, who buried it high into the net.
The away side still looked the most likely to get the winner, although the game entered something of a lull in the wake of the equaliser.
And the winning moment came on 89 minutes as Woolery refused to consider ball into the left channel a lost cause, seized possession down the left and advanced before squaring to Anderson to fire home in front of the delighted travelling support.
