WE’VE noted the recent requests from passengers (Adver letters, July 13 and 22) asking us to re-route Services 13 and 14 via Commercial Road again.
We are keen to serve the new shopping and leisure facilities at Regent Circus and we re-routed the evening and Sunday buses that way as part of our recent service changes.
However, we cannot re-route the weekday daytime buses until the road works at Bruce Street Bridges have been completed because of the traffic delays the works are causing.
We anticipated these delays, which is why we changed the Service 13 and 14 route through the town centre back in January 2014.
Running the buses direct to Fleming Way via the railway station was shorter and meant the service was better able to cope with the hold-ups.
Even so, we have experienced significant delays at various times and on most afternoons recently we have had to divert northbound Service 13 and 14 buses away from Rodbourne Road because of the long traffic jam approaching Bruce Street Bridges.
Without such action the delays would have had a knock-on effect along the whole route, including to the south of the town.
We know that a reliable and punctual bus service is the top priority for our passengers and until we can be confident that the daytime Services 13 and 14 won’t be held up at Bruce Street Bridges they need to run via the railway station.
In the meantime, passengers can change buses at Fleming Way to reach Regent Circus.
