The future of Greenbridge's cinema is uncertain - so let's take a look back at its past.
It was announced last week that the Empire cinema at the retail park would close and not reopen.
Cineworld opened a multiplex in the retail park premises in November 1998 before Empire took charge in 2006.
The site changed hands because of competition laws as, in 2005, Odeon and UCI Cinemas were bought on the same day by a venture capitalist. They merged and were required by the Office of Fair Trading to sell 11 of their cinemas.
Cineworld and UGC merged and were then required by the Office of Fair Trading to divest seven of their cinema businesses, one of which was Swindon's.
Over the years, the cinema has hosted film premieres at midnight, arranged regular Kids Morning Movie Clubs, and even welcomed famous faces like Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson.
The Adver took several snapshots of the site and spoke to film fans over the years.
On Friday, Empire abruptly announced that it has gone into administration and had to close some of its sites around the country, including the one in Swindon which had the town's only IMAX.
The company's boss blamed the lengthy closures during the pandemic, low attendance figures in the months that followed, and rising costs caused by high inflation, for leading to the cinema chain's money woes.
