Nostalgic photos show the history of a Regent Circus site that is now a popular events venue.
The MECA often hosts stand-up comedy, live music, and discos from the centre of Swindon.
The building has been part of the town as far back as the 1930s, when it used to be a cinema called 'Regent Talkies', playing the groundbreaking new technology of moving pictures paired with sound and dialogue.
In the 1960s, as these images from the Swindon Libraries' Local Studies department show, the cinema was under Gaumont's management, then Odeon took over for a few years in the late '60s until the building became a bingo hall.
Construction began on the revamped venue in 2010 and the MECA underwent a major redecoration just a few years ago.
