The following cases were heard at Swindon Magistrates' Court recently.
SWINDON: Martin Burrows, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced for shoplifting.
The 45-year-old indicated pleas of guilty to three charges of theft from a shop.
He stole two TVO fragrance products worth £49.98 from TK Maxx in Swindon on January 18, 2024, returned to the store to steal three more worth £99.97 on January 19, then took a TVO fragrance product and gift set worth £54.98 from the shop on February 15.
He has been jailed for 12 weeks due to the seriousness of the offences, the defendant being a persistent offender, and his failure to comply with probation and on a recall.
ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT: Philip Roberts, of Station Road in Royal Wootton Bassett, has been sentenced for driving offences.
The 45-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Ford Transit along the High Street on May 17, 2023, while in a position where he could not have proper control of the vehicle.
He received a £60 fine and three penalty points on his driving licence, and must also pay £100 in court costs plus £40 to fund victim services.
TOOTHILL: Ricky Simmonds, of Stamford Close, has been sentenced for possessing an offensive weapon.
The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing a knuckleduster. in private at an address in Redhouse on April 8, 2024. The weapon has been forfeited and destroyed.
He must pay a £466 fine plus £85 in court costs and £186 to fund victim services.
RODBOURNE: Marcus Lawton, of Morris Street, has been sentenced for assault by beating.
The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to hitting a woman in Swindon on January 15, 2024, and must pay a fine of £120 plus £85 in court costs and £48 to fund victim services.
ABBEY MEADS: Izzabelle Fotheringham, of Arley Close, has been sentenced for a driving offence.
The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall Adam along King Charles Road in Freshbrook on December 26, 2023, after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in her breath, namely 44 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeded the prescribed limit.
She received a £400 fine and four penalty points on her driving licence, and must also pay £85 in court costs as well as £160 to fund victim services.
FRESHBROOK: Barrie Barnett, of Crawford Close, has been sentenced for drugs offences.
The 35-year-old indicated pleas of guilty to cultivating two cannabis plants and possessing some of the Class B drug in Swindon on March 7, 2024.
He has been fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 in court costs plus £32 to fund victim services. The plants and drugs have been forfeited and destroyed.
SWINDON: Darren Harper, of Garnet Crescent, has been sentenced for assault by beating of an emergency worker.
The 57-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to hitting a police officer on April 6, 2024.
He must pay £100 in compensation and a £120 fine as well as £85 in court costs and £48 to fund victim services.
DEVIZES: Lee Acton, of Manor Close in Urchfont, has been sentenced for criminal damage.
The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to causing £100 worth of damage to a woman’s mobile phone on July 7, 2023.
He must pay £50 in compensation as well as £85 in court costs.
CHIPPENHAM: James Green, of Mill Lane in Avening, has been sentenced for a driving offence.
The 37-year-old pleaded not guilty but was later found guilty of driving a Seat Leon along the A350 on November 6, 2022, while unfit to drive through drink.
He has been banned from driving for 17 months, fined £300, and ordered to pay £325 in court costs plus £120 to fund victim services.
