Some of Camden Market’s most famous colourful doors will go under the hammer in Wiltshire.
The doors, which are covered in street art by notable urban artists, were painted in 2014 as part of a project organised by The Real Art of Street Art.
“The sheds at the time lacked any of the unique character which drew people to Camden so in 2014, permission was secured to repaint the market sheds,” said auctioneer Edd Thomas from RWB Auctions.
“The same basic shed front was given to each artist and they were left to choose their own design."
The doors include art from global street artists including Captain Kris, The Real Dill, Fan HC, Secle Style, Zena, Seeds One, Winston The Whale and Panik.
But despite their reputation, the doors were destined for the scrap heap when Camden Lock closed for redevelopment in 2015.
The site where they once stood is now a ‘hip shopping centre’ with luxury apartments, and the surviving doors which will go up for auction at RWB Auctions are some of the few known to have survived.
The rare doors will be on public display from Thursday, May 23 to Saturday, June 1 at The View Gallery in Royal Wootton Bassett’s High Street.
During this time, online bidding will take place from May 21 to June 2.
