Sheffield United have broken Swindon Town’s Premier League record of the most goals conceded in a single season.
For thirty years, Swindon were the only side to have ever conceded a century of goals in the Premier League, having conceded exactly 100 goals during their only top-flight season in 1993/94.
Town famously conceded five goals to Leeds United in a 5-0 defeat in their final game to bring up triple digits, with Town’s 100th goal conceded coming in the 90th minute of that final game.
However, that record has now been broken as, with one game to spare, the Blades have now conceded 101 goals following a 1-0 defeat to Everton, despite the season now being four games shorter than when Swindon were in the Premier League.
This was the final Premier League record that Swindon still held, with their benchmarks for fewest away wins and longest time without a win, amongst others, having already fallen since Town played at that level.
In the squad that has beaten John Gorman’s side were two former Swindon players, with Wes Foderingham having played 29 of the 37 games in goal this season, as well as former academy defender Jayden Bogle, who has been an ever-present.
